When you have staff in a UK company, employers liability is a legal requirement.
- When you are not a limited company then staff is any person who works for you excluding yourself, business partners or family members.
- Labour-only subcontractors are also staff. Labour-only subcontractors can be defined as are those people working under your guidance and using your tools and equipment.
- If you are a limited company working on your own and you own more than 51% of the company then liability insurance is not required.
- When you are a limited company with one person and you own less than 51% of the company then liability insurance is required by law.
- If you are a limited company with more than one person then employers liability insurance is required no matter how much of the company you own.
