As a courier do I need liability insurance as well as motor cover?
It is true that, as a self employed courier or courier business owner, your motor cover meets a lot of your needs. However, this leaves many areas of potential costs unprotected. Liability insurance covers many risks in a courier’s work that could otherwise cost you thousands of pounds or even close your business.
Time spent on other people’s property, handling of large items and any sales and promotion work you do are covered by liability insurance. If a claim is made against you for property damage or injury then liability cover will provide the cost of legal defence and any award made against you.
If you employ other people as admin staff or especially couriers, employers liability insurance will protect you if anyone has an accident whilst working or claims for an illness or chronic condition such as back injuries caused by their work. These types of settlements are getting more expensive and legal costs can run into tens of thousands for serious cases.
