What liability insurance does a marketing agency require?

Running a marketing agency is not traditionally a high-risk occupation; it certainly isn’t on a par with working on oilrig's or painting the Forth Bridge! We receive claims each year that show that there are risks to your business, however unlikely that they will happen to you tomorrow.

If you have clients, service providers or deliveries come to your office then there is the risk of someone injuring themselves on your property. If you visit clients on their site or have staff that make sales visits, then you increase the chance of something going wrong during the lifetime of your company.

Public liability is not compulsory for any company. It is highly recommended to any company that has direct contact with the public. Most marketing companies will have some contact, whether planning meetings with clients, sales calls or other people coming to your premises.

You may also be held responsible for anything that happens during events you organise. That might be a simple open day at your offices, an event or conference for your client or things like leafleting, sample handouts and guerrilla marketing stunts.

The cost of a claim if someone was hurt on your premises or because of your presence in their workplace could be tens of thousands if it is taken to court. A damages award could be thousands to millions, depending on the circumstances. Public liability insurance could cost as little as £46.29 a year.*

Employers liability insurance is compulsory for any marketing company that has employees.
