Plumbers need higher levels of liability insurance
Public liability insurance will protect a plumber from the costs of incidents causing property damage or injury to members of the public.
A plumber is there to fix problems and problems very rarely arise with the work of real professional plumbers. Unfortunately, because of the damage that can be caused by a burst pipe or undetected leak that builds over time, if something does happen, it is likely to be expensive to repair. If there is visible damage to ceiling, decorations or belongings, then the client will be more upset and more likely to become aggressive or litigious.
A legal defence is expensive enough, but paying an ex-clients damages and court costs can run into tens of thousands of pounds.
If you employ other plumbers, the law says you must have employers liability insurance. This protects your business against the costs of claims for accidents or work related illness by your staff.
