Yard worker receives payout for work place accident
Posted on May 15th 2009
A large compensation payout has been awarded to a labourer after suffering brain damage when he was hit on the back of the head whilst painting a ship for A & P Falmouth in 2004.
The worker, who has claimed the compensation due to the workplace accident was hit on the back of the head by welding equipment, leaving him with extensive brain damage, including deafness, lack of concentration and short-term memory loss.
Full safety equipment was worn by the worker, who can no longer work for a living, including a hard hat which doctors feel saved his life, however he is also affected by epilepsy and headaches.
The workers solicitors who took on the compensation claim felt that the accident was caused by poor health and safety techniques that could have been avoided. The compensation received would never compensate for the loss of the life he once led, however they would be able to cover his daily living costs now he is unable to work.
