Workplace accident figures are too high
Posted on February 27th 2009
A campaign has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to bring the dangers of slipping, tripping or falling from a height to the attention of workers.
21 people died last year and 3,700 suffered a serious injury after being involved in an accident in the workplace in London alone, this was either from a fall from height, a slip or a trip.
The Head of the HSE injury production programme commented that "people often view slips, trips and falls as trivial incidents, even comical but they are no joke"
Workers who receive serious injuries following a workplace accident often have to take time off work, a lifetime of disability and unfortunately some people are killed, affecting both the lives of the workers and their families.
By introducing simple measures, employers can make a difference in the workplace and workers need to stay alert and use their common sense to spot any hazards before they affect the lives of even themselves or a colleague.
