Worker killed in workplace accident

£335,000 has been awarded to a mans family after he was killed in an accident at work after his wife and children brought a claim against his employers.

The Health and Safety Executive successfully prosecuted the man's employer following his death, after he was crushed by a hydraulic lowering device.

The man was working inside the hydraulic devise, a paper slitter-rewinder machine, when one of his workmates pressed the wrong button.

The court found that this was a very tragic mistake made by the man's colleague and that there was a misunderstanding that the worker did not realise that his workmate was going to start the machine whilst he was inside.
