Unsafe trench causing hand injury

A five figure compensation settlement has been received to a man who suffered a serious injury to his left hand whilst at work.
The man, who was working as a sub contractor assisting with labouring work to widen a motorway has had his left hand crushed in a trench. The worker was asked by his foreman to remove a layer of concrete blocks from a trench, in which he queried the safety of but was told to continue working.
As the worker was stood upon the surface he lifted a block and lost his footing. The block fell and landed on his hand crushing his fingers. Sever lacerations were made, causing him to lose feeling in his fingers.
The injuries to his hand left him unable to return to work for several months and has not been back in full-time employment since.
