Two companies fined after workers fell through fragile roof

Two men, who were undertaking demolishing work on a farm building, have received compensation from two companies after they fell through a roof, falling four metres onto a concrete floor, leaving them with spinal injuries and multiple fractures.

Both companies were found guilty of breaching the Heath and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, after allowing their employees to work on a fragile roof of an unstable building without the necessary precautions.

The single greatest cause of fatality in the construction industry is workers falling from great heights, and so the HSE has warned companies to take action to avoid such accidents from happening.
