Summer job for student ends in chaos
Posted on October 14th 2009
A student, who had taken out a summer job to help pay off some of his university debts has been awarded with compensation after losing half of his leg in an accident at work.
The accident happened in 2008 at a London warehouse, when a colleague of the student, who had no training in driving a fork lift truck, was using the vehicle around the warehouse. He lost control, hitting knocking him into a gas tank, pinning him against it by one of the forks in his right leg.
Doctors carried out extensive surgery on the student's right leg to try and save it; there was nothing that they could possibly do so it was amputated below the knee. It has completely changed his life, and has had to adapt to the loss and become use to the phantom pains that he still feels. He is now back at university continuing his business studies degree which he is determined to finish.
The students employers admitted liability for the accident, providing him with compensation enabling him to purchase a prosthetic leg and finish his degree without any financial concerns.
