'Rogue Trader' caught out again
Posted on June 06th 2012
It's enough to make liability insurance customers cringe. A plumber who was caught red handed on the BBC's Rogue Traders programme for undertaking illegal gas checks in 2009 doesn't seem to have learnt his lesson after he was caught out again.
Despite having been already charged by the Health and Safety Executive for endangering lives, Brian Lloyd from Osset wasn't deterred. After being handed a 17-week suspended sentence in 2010 he was caught installing faulty boilers once again. The move by Mr Lloyd wasn't just testing the limits of liability insurance, he was putting people's lives at risk.
Just 6 months into his suspended sentence, Brian Lloyd installed a combi boiler in someone's home, breaking the terms of his sentencing and a HSE prohibition notice. He was caught after the boiler was found to be faulty and potentially dangerous by a Gas Safe engineer.
HSE Inspector Andy Denison explained: "His previous conviction for a number of offences and his naming and shaming on a TV programme, have done nothing to deter him from trying to turn a profit at the expense of people's safety."
Brian Lloyd pleaded guilty to the new offence and will need to pay a £500 fine. He was also given 250 hours of community service.
Maybe this time he'll have learnt his lesson and of course if he did have liability insurance then his claim will have contributed to rising premiums for the rest of us.
