Private Members Bill for Employers Liability Insurance Bureau
Posted on March 13th 2009
A private members bill has been put before Parliament by the Labour MP for Hendon to create an employers liability insurance bureau to offer a last resort protection to employees whose employers have no cover.
The idea is to create a system that mirrors the motor insurance bureau, so that the only two compulsory insurance types of car and employers liability can still be covered in the event of a claim.
It would solve some of the legal wrangling that the insurance industry has been embroiled in the last few years regarding asbestos sufferers and when they are covered from the point of contamination or from when symptoms first develop.
The move has been welcomed by families of sufferers as well as law firms who seem to have been banging their heads against the collective wall of employer's liability insurance providers in getting compensation for sufferers of asbestosis and mesothelioma.
