Prison Officer awarded compensation

A prison officer has been awarded compensation after being attacked at work and having to take months off work following his injuries.

The officer and his partner were trying to disarm a prisoner and restrain him when he slipped on the cell floor after slipping on cleaning fluid, which had been spilt across the floor. Both men wore the correct uniforms and safety clothing when the incident took place.

The man suffered from damaged tendons and torn ligaments to his thumb. He was forced to take 5 months off work to recover from his injuries and decided to leave the prison service after the incident.

The court awarded him £8000 in compensation.
