Pain of Glass
Posted on August 24th 2009
Sometimes the comic sketch of two workmen carrying a pane of glass and a third party running head-on into the sheet or narrowly missing the edge can provide moments of laughter.
However this light hearted scene has taken a tragic twist when a man working at the Build Center in Derby lost his life after a sheet of glass fell on top of him.
The emergency services were called to the man who was employed by the Glass Branch of the Build Center and despite their best efforts, he unfortunately passed away when the glass pane shattered above him.
It is currently unknown as to the reason for the accident and both the Health and Safety Executive and the Build Center are conducting their own investigations to eradicate any chance of the accident happening again.
A spokesman for the Build Center, who to date have not had any workplace fatalities, said they were deeply saddened by the tragic death and were shocked by the accident.
