Number of deaths at work still too high
Posted on December 14th 2009
2009 has seen a drop in the amount of injuries that occur in the workplace although there has been no drop in the number of deaths. The figures show that in the North West the total number of injuries that occurred in the workplace last year was 3,281 compared to 3,387 in 07/08. The figures also revealed that while this number dropped the number of death that occurred at work stayed at 22, which is still a figure the Health and Safety Executive wants to improve on.
A recent warning issued by St John Ambulance urges all companies to keep health and safety a priority even during these difficult financial times. The regional director of St John' s Ambulance said: "The reduction in injuries is very good news, and it shows that having good health and safety procedures in place can really make a difference. However, there are still too many accidents happening at work and 22 deaths is 22 too many."
