Money stolen from under their noses
Posted on September 14th 2009
A £6 million fraud, targeting the UK construction industry has lead to the arrests of 21 criminals, guilty of the deception of money laundering of public revenue.
On Wednesday September 10, 18 men and 3 women were detained by police after their scam to rob thousands of construction workers of tax and national insurance by diverting funds of unsuspecting workers in to their own accounts, many of which had not noticed the swindle going on beneath their noses .
Following the arrests, 40 search warrants were released on properties, seizing over £70,000 in cash, a large quantity of class A drugs and documentations relating to the conspiracy.
The investigation is still ongoing. However these crimes will continue; since the economic downturn, such crimes are not uncommon with criminal gangs going to great lengths to earn themselves money in these hard times.
