London tops bike crime table
Posted on June 24th 2009
The insurance company More Than has conducted an experiment to highlight the level of bicycle theft in the UK.
In the experiment, bikes were left unattended in 10 UK cities and the time it took for them to be stolen was recorded.
London was found to be the least safe place to leave a bike with the one left outside London Bridge Station stolen in just 17 minutes.
Glasgow was found to be the most dangerous city outside the capital with a time of just 1 hour 30 minutes. In third place was Birmingham with a time of 1 hour 55 minutes.
Contrary to stereotypes, Liverpool was found to be the safest city with a £130 bike left in the city centre taking 3 hours and 52 minutes to be stolen.
