Posted on June 10th 2009

One of the UK's largest and busiest airports Heathrow has been fined £10,000 after a contractor fell into an unprotected gully. The incident occurred at terminal 1 of Heathrow in March 2007, after a maintenance worker was walking from one part of the terminal roof to another.

The contractor received serious injuries to his leg. This has been put down to the fact that there was no edge protection to the gully and the local lighting for the area had not been working. This in turn caused the worker injuries that have been deemed as “life changing” and he is no longer able to carry out work that he used too.

The airport was fines £10,000 and was ordered to pay an additional £3,000 in costs, after pleading guilty to breaching the Health and Safety Act of 1974.
