Leg impalement leads to employers liability claim
Posted on August 28th 2009
The most recent claim to grace the employers liability insurance world is Rutland's Plastic demolition site where a survey man impaled his leg on a metal spike.
The inspector was surveying the old Corah factory in Oakham when he had an accident with a piece of metal embedded in a concrete floor; this very same metal shard punched right through his leg above his ankle coming out the other side.
The man was rooted to the spot because the shrapnel was still fixed to the ground and the fire service had to especially careful when cutting him free as any vibrations caused by a cutter would have caused the victim excruciating pain.
The man was eventually helped into chair whilst at attempt to free his foot was made and emergency staff administered oxygen to the desperate man who is suspected to be in his mid fifties.
The Health and Safety executive who were duly notified suspect that inadequate risk assessments were in place causing the man to impale his foot.
