Ladder Exchange initiative hopes to reduce liability insurance claims
Posted on September 20th 2011
The Ladder Exchange Initiative will no doubt be welcomed by liability insurance customers all over the UK during its 3 month run. It aims to take old, bent, or damaged ladders out of use and replace them with new ones.
Many popular ladder outlets are involved in the initiative, including HSS Hire, Speedy Hire, Ladderstore.com, and Globe Ladders Ltd. The objective is to provide all ladder users with a nearby facility to exchange their old ladder for a new one.
The initiative is open to all, whether a sole trader or a large business, and will offer a discount against a safe ladder when a dodgy ladder is handed over in exchange. It is hoped that tradesmen and contractor firms will take advantage of the opportunity to avoid falls where liability insurance claims might have to be made.
The Health and Safety Executive began running the scheme in 2007, and over 8,000 ladders have been exchanged since then. Thousands of people are injured each year because of a fall from height at work, and often these falls could have been prevented if proper safety measures had been taken.
This year the initiative started on September 1st and lasts until November 30th, so liability insurance customers still have plenty of time to swap their worn-out ladders for safe ones.
