Lack of machine training leaves worker injured
Posted on June 12th 2009
Compensation has been awarded to a worker whose hand was crushed in a rolling machine due to a lack of training in an out of court settlement.
The 21 year old had been working at a tissue factory, when a jam occurred on a machine that he was asked to help unblock by a co-worker. This involved him putting his hand between the machines and pulling on the jammed paper whilst the co-worker activated the rollers. During the clearing of the jammed paper the mans hand was crushed by the rollers.
He was left needing surgery to fix a fractured index finger, along with lacerations to other fingers and extensive scarring.
The accident has left the man, who recently become a father, with pain in his hand and is sometimes unable to do simple tasks.
