Kitchen assistant awarded £40,000
Posted on April 15th 2008
A council kitchen assistant, who was forced to medically retire on the grounds of ill health has been awarded £40,000 by her former employers.
She was forced to leave her job following a violent incident in her workplace at a centre, which caters for adults with learning difficulties.
A man that suffered from fragile x syndrome caused the kitchen worker a considerable amount of discomfort after verbally assaulting her and threatening to kill her, he had also previously physically and verbally assaulted staff and other users of the centre.
She brought to attention that the council had failed to assess the risks to her and her colleagues and had not adopted any procedures to deal with the gentleman, such as one to one supervision.
