Injured factory worker wins £12,000 compensation

A factory worker has won £12,000 compensation after been injured at Indesits factory in Denbighshire, North Wales.

The factory worker, Richard Williams, worked as an operator at the Indesit factory in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire for 34 years and was offered a voluntary redundancy after his accident.

Mr Williams was attempting to manually pull down a metal panel on a washing machine to secure it in place but the panel didn't move because it hadn't been positioned correctly. Due to the incorrectly positioned panel Mr Williams badly injured his left shoulder and thumb.

Mr Williams, aged 60, said: "I still suffer from pain in my shoulder and thumb, every day tasks like carrying a cup, opening jars or bottles and driving the car for more than 45 minutes at a time are difficult to do and cause me pain. I had to sell my pride and joy my motorbike - a hobby I loved doing. I was fortunate that I was a trade union member, without their support I wouldn't have received a penny for Indesit."

Mr Richards, Wales's regional secretary said: Mr Williams's injuries could have been avoided if the panel had been fitted correctly. Indesit is a one of the leading employers in the UK and should be fully aware of its responsibilities with regards to the manual handling and her equipment regulations.

Mr Williams, representatives said that they hope that this settlement will help secure his retirement.
