The harvest period is one of the most hazardous periods of the year for the agricultural industry and liability insurance providers see a heavy increase in the number of farming-related employer liability claims.

Mowing is one of the most dangerous jobs in agricultural work and over the past 8 years there have been three deaths from using a mower in the UK amongst many other mower-related injuries reported.

East Riding in Yorkshire has recently suffered the death of a 35-year-old farmer after he lost control over the ride-on mower he was operating and fell into a ditch. Tragically, more common but no less devastating, a man in Oxfordshire lost his leg after falling down an embankment and onto a road.

This apparent lack of understanding and safety that surrounds this area has forced the Health and Safety Executive to consider creating a committee to raise safety standards in mower use.

As injuries and accidents continue to reach these absurd levels, the new recommended safety standards from the HSE could force various levels of company hierarchy to face the repercussions of inadequate mower safety measures.

Insure My Liability can offer a wide range of liability insurance products to suit the business needs of agriculturalists, construction workers and trades people.
