Heavy good on the agenda for HSE

The Health and Safety Executive will be spending time up in the Highlands and the North-East in the hope of improving the way public liability insurance customers lift and move heavy goods. They will be focusing on several points that surround this area, as there are currently 50 lives claimed a year from this.

John Radcliffe the Aberdeen HSE inspector said: "The majority of accidents occur during routine lifts, because they are carried out frequently and staff assume they know the risks involved. Evidence shows that businesses with good workforce involvement perform better in terms of health and safety measures."

This month an event has been held in Fife, which was aimed at instructing workmen on the dangers and the correct measures that should be taken when dealing with heavy goods.
