Harbourmaster injured at work
Posted on November 26th 2008
A former harbourmaster, who spent 21 years working at a harbour, has been forced to take an early retirement from a job he loved dearly after a fall left him with sever back injuries.
The accident occurred when he went to throw some milk away when he fell on some stairs, which were slimy from years of exposure to the sea and did not have a handrail.
He suffered severe injuries to his back after his fall and was forced to take six weeks off work. When he did return to work he was still in too much pain so was forced to take an early retirement.
Over the last few years' staff have made complaints about the state of the harbour stairs. The harbourmaster won an out of court settlement from the council after they found the council was negligent towards its employees by not rectifying their concerns for the last 5 years.
