Posted on July 21st 2008

A restaurant in Plymouth, faces up to £40,000 in fines after immigration offers found that four illegal workers, 1 from Malaysia and 3 from Mauritius were working there.

Four notices of potential liability were served to the owners of the restaurant, one for each illegal worker. They have been given 4 weeks to now provide the UK Border Agency with evidence that they carried out the correct right to work checks out before employing the staff.

The UK Border Agency is taking steps to remove all illegal workers as soon as possible, however by employers providing them with work it is attracting more and more each year.

A £10,000 fine can be issued to employers who fail to provide evidence that they carried out the correct right-to-work checks before employing an illegal worker.
