Employers liability threatened by forklift amputee
Posted on September 09th 2009
Michael Jones, a former forklift driver, has recently issued an employer's liability insurance claim against his former employer, KJ Plant Developments after he suffered an accident with a forklift truck.
Jones was unloading mesh reinforcements from the forklift trucks forks when they fell and crushed his lower limbs. The workmen had to have one leg amputated and extensive surgery to save his other limb.
The Health and Safety Executive gave evidence at the court trial stating that Jones' employers had failed to put in place "fundamental" safety practices which would have ultimately have saved the workmen's legs.
KJ Plant Developments was considered guilty of serious negligence after failing to implement effective transport management and they were fined over £20, 000 as punishment.
