Electrician wins £250 000 compensation
Posted on September 24th 2008
A contract electrician received £250 000 compensation after a fall at work. The man was walking from the substation to the compressor shed to carry out maintenance work.
The man had to walk through a raised walkway past the slurry area when his right foot broke through a thin skin of hardened cement slurry; he lost his footing, twisting his back. The man was in a lot of pain but some how managed to stop himself falling to the ground.
The employer's insurers claimed the man had been told during his induction training to avoid the slurry. However the contractor said he was never informed. The man told how it was standard practice to walk through the slurry. There were no signs warning people not to walk through the area or any barriers in place to stop people accessing the area.
The man settled out of court.
