Contract terminated due to back injury
Posted on October 22nd 2008
A brick layer, who sustained an injury to his back whilst at work has been awarded £35,000. The accident occurred when he was required to lift up a manhole cover.
The worker and one of his colleagues worked together to lift the manhole cover using a spade and pick axe, but the cover slipped causing the brick layer to fall forward and jar his back.
Due to his injury, his pre-accident contract as a brick layer was terminated on the grounds of ill health as he could no longer work on the building site.
The worker had previously suffered with back problems, however this accident brought on more serious symptoms five years early.
