Posted on October 19th 2009

A construction company in Hertfordshire has been fined nearly £17,000 after they were found guilty of breaching Regulation 8(b) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

The charges came after a worker fell six metres to the ground due to the scaffolding that he was on collapsed beneath him. He had been working at a site in Liverpool City Centre and was required to remove lifting chains from the scaffolding, causing it to become unstable and topple over.

Back injuries and a fractured pelvis were amongst the many injuries caused to the worker following the fall, which could have been avoided if the construction company had followed the correct safety precautions when working from a height.

Employers liability insurance is a legal requirement and should be purchased for your business, for protection against falls from a height in your workplace. This can be purchased online from Insure My Liability.
