Compensation rewarded for torn ligaments
Posted on December 17th 2008
A man from Wolverhampton fell into a four-inch gap, which had developed over a period of time between two machines. The machines, which made cast iron components were supposed to have been lined up. After being taken to hospital with what the doctor thought was a broken foot he spent the next 6 weeks in a cast. It was later discovered that he had torn his ligaments after his foot kept swelling up. He decided to claim compensation after he was made redundant following the accident. His life was affected and he had to make some major changes. He could only cope working part time as the pain was so bad. The man has since received £17,000 in compensation, the courts ruled that all companies owe a duty of care to their staff and are responsible in insuring their employees do not cause themselves injury in the workplace.
