Company fined for failing to ensure safety at work
Posted on December 23rd 2009
Daylesford Organic Farms Ltd based in the Cotswold just outside of Chipping Norton has received fines of £65,000 and ordered to pay £27,500 in costs after failing to adhear to health and safety laws, which cost a worker his life. The traditional grocery store is run by JCB boss Sir Anthony Bamford and wife Lady Carole and receives business from Hollywood stars such as Liz Hurley and Kate Winslet.
The incident happened when Mr Cripps and colleagues where picking Elderflower in the fields. Mr Cripps was riding in the bucket seat in a JCB when it hit a bump throwing him from the vehicle landing him in front of a digger where he was crushed to death. The court found Daylesford Farm guilty of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act, after failing to ensure the safety of their employees.
A spokesman for Daylesford said: "Since this tragic accident, a number of steps have been taken by the business to improve health and safety. We strive to minimise workplace risk at all times so that accidents like this can never happen again."
