Company fined after contractor injured
Posted on September 30th 2009
£12,000 has been fined to a water filtration company, after they failed to provide a safe working environment for a contractor who had visited the site to carry out routine works.
Mr Trafisz had been working at the construction site of the Marchwood Power Station in Colchester to assemble components that aided the water filtration system. The components that he was using weigh 2,000 kg and have to be held up by axle stands in order for the contractor to assemble them, however one of the components slipped crushing him beneath it and fracturing his pelvis.
The Health and Safety Executive launched an investigation following the accident and found that Eimco Water Technologies had failed to provide the contractor with a safe working environment, leading to the charge of a £12,000 fine as well as £3,600 in costs.
