Changes to First Aid in the Workplace
Posted on September 18th 2009
On Thursday 1 October The Health and Safety Executive will be making changes to the laws against First Aid in the Workplace; the current course which First Aiders must attend to achieve First Aid in the Workplace (FAW) will be shortened from 4 days to three, however there is now also the introduction of a new qualification, Emergency First Aider in the Workplace.
Following the new changes, St John Ambulance in Hampshire is calling upon all local businesses and trades to act upon these new proposals by visiting The Health and Safety Executives website; please be aware that if your certificate is valid beyond the 1 October you do not need to take action until it expires.
These changes will be the largest renovation of First Aid in the workplace for 25 years and St John Ambulance wants to ensure that everyone has read up on how these changes will be affecting their business. If The Health and Safety Executive comes across companies that have not complied with the new charges they will face fines; they will also be putting their employees at risk due to the lack of training.
