Care assistant wins £8000 compensation

A former care assistant has won £8000 in compensation after injuring her back at work.

The former care assistant was required to help dress an elderly lady at a residential care home in Darlington. The former care assistant and a colleague were required to drag the elderly lady off the bed and lift her up to pull her under garments up, which resulted in her back injury.

She was unable to do normal every day tasks and was forced to leave work due to the pain.

The GMB have said that the care assistant's case has highlighted problems in the private sector in terms of providing training and safe handling techniques when assisting residents in care homes.
