Campaign launched to minimise accidents in transport industry
Posted on February 29th 2008
With almost 3 million people working with vehicles in the UK, a campaign has been launched by the Health and Security Executives to decrease the number of accidents that occur in the transport industry, first by encouraging workers to take more precautions to minimise the risk of an accident.
According to 2005 figures, 31 percent of workplace fatalities occurred in the transport industry and every year almost 2,000 are seriously harmed from falling from their vehicles, accounting for the worst record of personal injuries in the workplace. Last year the industry paid out of £35 million to cover the cost of deaths and personal injuries.
