Burger buns cause hand liability insurance claim

We don't realise the value of our hands until we lose or partially maim them, yet it is surprising the number of workplace hand injuries reported to the Health and Safety Executive every year. One would expect that we would take more care of one of our most valuable tools.

However the most recent victim to suffer a broken finger is food delivery driver David McCulloch from Bicester, Oxfordshire. The truck driver, an employee of 3663, was delivering burger buns to a Burger King fast food outlet when a faulty van door slid and trapped his fingers.

Staff were unable to aid McCulloch in this pain and he had to wait for the fire service to arrive to cut his right hand free of the lorry. His employers 3663 paid McCulloch £7,000 in compensation as he had to miss 7 weeks from work and they are simply the latest company in a whole long line to claim on their employers liability insurance for a missing finger.

McCulloch on the other hand remained positive and was thankful that his hand had healed "so well", as his hands play a vital role in his choice of livelihood.
