British man named vice president

A Leeds Metropolitan University lecturer has been made the vice president for the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Tim Briggs who received the vice presidency has described this as a honour as IOSH is the biggest professional health organisation in the world boasting around 35,000 members worldwide.

Mr Briggs said: Health and safety is a growing profession, and it's something that is essential to a well-run, profitable business. Health and safety is about sensible balance, not bureaucratic nonsense, and I'm looking forward to defending the profession's reputation against some of these ridiculous accusations."

He added: "I'm also looking forward to working with government, both nationally and internationally, to try and further political understanding of the importance of health and safety politicians need to understand health and safety to be able to make decisions on it."
