Avoid liability claims with mans best friend

Hoteliers can take comfort from a new service that can protect them from claims on their liability insurance.

You will have heard of sniffer dogs for explosives, drugs and other dangerous materials, well now it's the turn of the bed bug sniffer dog. Lola, a sixteen-month old Jack Russell terrier, has just returned from training in America and is the only certified bed bug sniffer dog in the UK.

Lola takes two or three minutes to check a room and does it with 98% accuracy. This compares favourably with the fifteen to twenty minute checks and much lower accuracy levels of a human inspector.

And bed bugs are not a trivial problem from a point of view of liability claims. A few years ago an American couple filed suit in the USA for millions of dollars worth of damages after a bed bug infestation in a Hyde Park hotel. That claim was put in the hands of the hotel's liability insurance company.

Hiring a sniffer dog could be a quick and painless way for hotels to avoid claims and keep liability insurance quote levels low.
