Are your ladders faulty

45 deaths and 3,750 serious injuries were caused last year from people falling from heights, remaining one of the most common causes of death or serious injury in the UK.

One third of the falls recorded are down to the use of ladders, with a significant number of accidents involving the failure of a defective or damaged ladder. On average 13 people are killed and 1,200 suffer from serious injuries a year from ladder falls.

The ladder exchange program will be repeated again by Health and Safety Executives again this year to continue to lower the number of deaths due to the use of ladders. This will be focused on smaller firms where inspectors will visit employers to encourage them to scrap damaged and unsafe ladders.

Many of the large firms such as SBG, HSS and Speedy Hire are going to support the initiative by replacing the ladders at discounted prices.
