Aerosol cans explode at metal recycling plant

A recycle plant worker who worked for a metal recycling company has died after suffering serious burns.

The man had been asked to place aerosol cans in to a mechanical crusher, when the contents caught light and exploded in front of the worker.

The staff had not been fully trained correctly in this line of work and the contents of the cans had not been identified.

A spokesman for the Waste Industry Safety and Health (WISH) said that by improving the Health and Safety practises and attitudes within the sector they will cut accidents by 10 percent; however the recycling and waste industry is a dangerous place to work.
