A shocking fine for local authority

An employee for London Borough of Havering was electrocuted with 11,000 volts of electricity after he struck an underground cable. An investigation was launched at Main Road, Romford after the incident left the employee with flash burns and electric shock. The incident was described as a failure to “provide a safe system of work”
The Health and Safety Executive are reminding all employers to ensure the safety of their staff is kept at the highest priority in order to prevent these incidents occurring. The company pleaded guilty to breaching the Health and Safety Act of 1974 and was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £9,810 in costs.
