View our liability insurance RSS news feed7 Irish fall from height deaths

Posted on September 04th 2009

This week the Irish construction industry has come under fire form the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) in Ireland as seven people have died from working at heights this year.

The Irish construction industry has been has a historically infamous reputation for dangerous working conditions and has in recent years attempted to improve this social standing after much prompting and persuasion form the HSA. However senior inspector, Martin Oshea has been lamenting the recent deaths caused by a fall form heights.

Like the UK, Ireland has a set of detailed regulations and guidelines for construction workers to make working at heights as safe as possible, however despite all the advice on hand 15 people dies in the construction industry last year. Oshea explains that the most common causes of accidents have been unsecured ladders and falls form roofs.

The HSA is keen to prevent any more accidents in the industry and urges many Irish construction workers to clean up their act as it could be their own lives they are saving. In conjunction with their plea they have also set a high target of carrying out over 5000 construction inspections, which will help regulate roof workers, scaffolders and other people working at heights.

Insure My Trade provides liability insurance for construction workers across the UK helping to aid financial burdens in employers liability claims.
