Worker received 50000
A worker who was asked to remove a coupling hub from a gearbox of a cement mixer has received £50,000 in compensation after the hub struck him in the leg. The locking nut that was securing the hub had been undone too far and so the hydraulic jack that he had been using to get the correct pressure caused the hub, weighing approximately a tonne, to shoot towards his leg at high speed.
He was admitted to hospital where he needed prolonged medical treatment for a compound fracture to his right leg, resulting in him being off work for a month. Eventually he was forced to leave his job as a mechanical craft worker, as his injury meant he could only carry out light duties.
