Trainee supervision under scrutiny from the Health and Safety Executive
Following the death of a 17-year-old trainee scaffolder the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have issued a reminder to firms to make sure that they’re trainees are properly supervised in the workplace.
The advice comes after the three companies and contract manager involved were fined £217,500 in total plus another £125,000 in costs for the breaches in health and safety law.
The rulings coincide with a new HSE initiative to reduce the rising numbers of serious and fatal injuries at construction sites. This is to be done using a thorough inspection programme, with the plan to visit over a 1,000 construction and refurbishment sites across the UK.
