Too thick for the job
£8,000 has been awarded to an electrician after he was injured at work whilst he was fixing wire cable trays to a wall.
One of the trays that he was fixing to the wall fell in to his hand, causing injury to his left index finger including a fracture and disruption to the nail bed, this resulted in partial amputation of the tip.
The accident would have been prevented if he had been provided with the correct gloves, as they were too thick to carry out the task.
The employers had adequate employers liability insurance, however due to this being a contributory negligence the worker accepted a 15 reduction of his compensation.
Thinner more flexible gloves have now been provided to the staff.
