Support workers £15,500 compensation for bad back
Compensation has been paid to a support worker who suffered a back injury while pushing a wheel chair bound patient up and down a steep road.
The worker was also sacked for being off for eight months work with the complaint, even though he made several complaints before the injury that the physical exertions of the job were causing him pain.
He also claimed that he had been given no training as to how to correctly handle the wheelchair during his employment.
Even though he had a pre-existing back condition the court still awarded the sum of £15,500 after hearing evidence from a consultant neurosurgeon who said that the injury had accelerated his condition by over two years.
