NEPIC event hopes to reduce he number of transport accidents

The North East Process Industry Cluster held a seminar for the improvement of management of workplace transport issues yesterday at Middlesbrough Football Club. The event has been set up to improve standards and reduce the number of accidents caused each year as a result of workplace transport.

The event is sponsored by NEBOSH and is to be held by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Safety Groups UK (SGUK).

The current figure of deaths as a result of workplace transport currently stands at 50 people a year, according to data from NEPIC. They also revealed that injuries as a result of this stand at 1,500 and there where 3,500 incidents that resulted in workers missing more than 3 days of work.

These injuries predominantly come directly from moving goods whilst in a working environment. The seminar is part of a national project called Moving Goods Safely (MGS) involving the HSE and the relevant authorities and work towards the goal of reducing the number of workplace accidents.
