Construction Industry workers needed for 2012 Olympics
182,000 workers are in need to complete the rush of building work for the 2012 London Olympics. However the Construction Skills network has advised that this shortage is not going to be an obstacle in completing the work on time.
Preparations for the 2012 London Olympic games will not only involve building work for the showcase stadium and Olympic park but also the need of transport and regeneration schemes.
It is predicted that the need for workers in the construction industry will peak in 2011 to approximately 2.8 million needed in the UK for the run up to the Olympics. This will include 161,000 painters, 122,000 bricklayers, 189,000 plumbers and 211,000 electricians.
Plans to set up a national network of work-based training centres are underway, to train and retrain workers in the construction industry to aid with the increase in demand.
The construction skills network added that they will be working with employers and training providers to ensure that the right practical on-site training is taking place to help workers gain the skills needed to fill job vacancies.
